Teacher arrested after trying to kill pupil. A TEACHER has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly attacked three pupils in a classroom. Peter Harvey is thought to have assaulted the girl and two boys with a weight during a science lesson. One, 14-year-old Jack Waterhouse, was left lying badly injured under blood-spattered walls. Last night he was fighting for his life in hospital. His classmates – also aged 14 – required medical attention. Det Supt Adrian Pearson said pupils at All Saints’ Roman Catholic School in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, were left ‘traumatised’ by the incident. ‘People send their children here because of its academic record and what happened is very much out of character for the school,’ he added. ‘I know a number of parents have called the head teacher about what has happened but I would appeal for everyone to be calm, particularly in ‘He was left lying in a pool of blood’ relation to those people involved.’ The year eight class was having a science lesson on Wednesday when a row is thought to have broken out between Jack and Mr Harvey, culminating in the incident. Officers refused to say whether the boy and girl were trying to defend their classmate. The classroom was forensically examined but has since re-opened. One called him ‘a great inspiration’. Parents and pupils gathered at the school gates said they were stunned. Ex-pupil Tom Blythe, 19, described the 49-year-old as ‘a bit of a legend’. Jack’s parents were last night at his bedside at the Queen’sMedical Centre in Nottingham, where his condition was described as serious but stable.

Madrid, 10 Jul (Lusa) - A explosão de uma bomba danificou quinta-feira à noite a sede do Partido Socialista basco na cidade de Durango, mas não provocou vítimas, informou hoje a polícia. A autoria do atentado, que ocorreu pouco antes da meia-noite, foi atribuída à ETA. O edifício de apartamentos onde estava instalada a sede do Partido Socialista Euskadi tinha sido evacuado antes da explosão.
