F1 chief Mosley's son found dead in London
by Guy Jackson1 hr 23 mins ago. LONDON (AFP) – One of world motorsport chief Max Mosley's sons has been found dead at his London home of a suspected drugs overdose, police and media reports said Wednesday. The body of Alexander Mosley, 39, was found at his home in Notting Hill, west London. The Sun newspaper said he was slumped in a room after a suspected overdose. London's Metropolitan Police said in a statement: "The deceased is a man in his late 30s. We believe we know the identity of the deceased and are in the process of informing next of kin. "A post-mortem will take place in due course," it said, while a spokesman added that the death was not being treated as suspicious, and declined to comment officially on the reports of an overdose. The Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), of which Mosley is the president, said: "The FIA extends sincere condolences to the Mosley family on the sad news of the death of Alexander Mosley.
"Our thoughts are with Alexander's family and friends, and we would request that the media respect the Mosley family's privacy at this difficult time," added a statement on its website.
Former Formula One team boss and Mosley family friend Eddie Jordan said he was devastated by the "tragic" news. "Max and particularly Alexander were very close," he told Sky News, adding he remembered Mosley's son being "on the periphery" of Formula One, notably through his computer skills. "I can only recall this nice young, very energetic, very very very clever body being involved and just being there because his father was there... He was a hugely clever and talented computer expert," he added. "I'm devastated quite honestly. As a parent it's the last thing in the world you ever ever want to have a phone call about. It's totally tragic." A free newspaper, the London paper, reported that the 39-year-old had been seen returning home with another man an hour before his death. "I saw two men go into the flat and about an hour later there were rows of police outside and an ambulance. They stayed for a couple of hours and I wasn't sure what was going on," neighbor Steve Abrams, 70, told the paper. Max Mosley, the son of 1930s British fascist leader Sir Oswald Mosley, won 60,000 pounds (67,600 euros, 90,500 dollars) in damages last July after a newspaper alleged he had taken part in a Nazi-themed sex orgy. A judge ruled there was no Nazi theme to the orgy, a video of which was obtained by a newspaper. Jordan, asked how Mosley would be reacting, he said: "I think Max will do his own thing. He will hopefully be able to find some consolation, get the family together. This is a very tragic moment for all of them." "Max has had some problems in the last number of years. I've been a good friend of that family and I'm devastated for them," he added. Speaking to a parliamentary committee in March about his recent legal action, Max Mosley lamented particularly the impact of the scandal on his family.
"Can you imagine seeing pictures like that of your father? It's just appalling," he said.
