Explosion and fire at chemical plant in Armenia 14 May, 2009 Two explosions within a space of about five minutes rocked a sprawling chemical plant in southern Yerevan at about 6.40 pm Thursday. The explosions were followed by a huge fire at a chloroprene production shop at Nairit, the region’s largest synthetic rubber producing plant. The two explosions could be heard by residents living in the nearby area. Sixteen fire-fighting vehicles reportedly rushed to the scene soon after the incident and were fighting fire late on Thursday. The fire rated as 'huge' was reportedly localized. Police had sealed off the area leading to the plant and part of at least one broad avenue, Bagratunyats, in the capital’s Shengavit district was blocked for pedestrians and motorists. Several ambulance vehicles were rushing into the area. According to the latest reports, there are four deaths and over a dozen injuries. Some firefighters are also believed to be among those who sustained burns. Four people are said to have been in the premises where the explosions took place at the moment. A spokesman for the plant, also speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, said the explosion and fire at the plant did not threaten the area’s environment. One worker of the plant, who introduced himself as a chemical specialist, said talking to ArmeniaNow that the explosions and fire did not cause any chemical air pollution that would essentially endanger or pose hazard to human life or health. Police, however, as of Thursday evening, reportedly were taking measures to evacuate people, including residents, from the close vicinity of the plant.

Russia has long said it does not see Nabucco -- designed to export gas from Central Asia and the Caspian to Europe and ease the continent's heavy dependence on Russian gas -- as a rival project, although it adds there is not enough gas for both. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will travel to Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi to meet Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and both men will oversee the signing of a deal between energy majors Gazprom (ENI.MI:Quote, Profile, Research) and ENI (ENI.MI: Quote, Profile, Research). The two firms have already set up a 50/50 joint venture to build South Stream, which will start near Sochi, cross the Black Sea to reach Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, Hungary and ultimately Italy with supplies of at least 30 billion cubic metres a year. Russia is already supplying a quarter of Europe's gas needs with exports of 150 billion cubic metres a year and Gazprom's plans such as South Stream and Nord Stream in the Baltics have increased EU concerns it would become yet more dependent on Russia.

ROME (Dow Jones)--Eni SpA (E), Italy's biggest energy company by market capitalization, said Friday it signed a new understanding agreement with OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) that will boost the project's annual natural gas capacity to 47 billion cubic meters from the original 31 billion. "Eni and Gazprom confirmed their full commitment to develop the project, given its strategic relevance to provide, through a new route, significant contribution to secure direct gas supplies to Europe," said the Rome-based company in a statement. Eni CEO Paolo Scaroni signed the deal in the presence of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and his Italian counterpart Silvio Berlusconi in Russia Friday.

На северо-востоке Москвы подожгли 4 машины милиции В Москве, на ул.Хованской, у дома N15, где располагается отделение вневедомственной охраны, неизвестные подожгли 4 милицейских автомобиля, облив их легковоспламеняющейся жидкостью. Как сообщили в управлении информации и общественных связей ГУВД столицы, инцидент произошел минувшей ночью, около 03:40 мск. Дежурный вневедомственной охраны обнаружил возгорание, после чего милиционеры своими силами потушили автомобили. Незначительные повреждения получили 2 машины, у которых оплавились задние бамперы и фары. С места происшествия изъяты несколько ведер с легковоспламеняющейся жидкостью.

В частности, они зарегистрировали сеть фирм-однодневок, на счета которых перечисляли огромные суммы, позже деньги обналичивались. По подсчетам оперативников, ежедневный оборот злоумышленников составлял от 30 до 40 млн рублей. Пятерых подозреваемых, двое из которых являются работниками московского филиала тюменского ЗАО «Мега банк», задержали оперативники главного управления МВД РФ по Центральному федеральному округу. По версии следствия, они развернули незаконный бизнес по отмыванию денег. «Суть аферы не отличается оригинальностью. Зарегистрировав сеть фирм-однодневок, мошенники предоставляли желающим обналичить денежные средства реквизиты этих фирм», – рассказали РИА «Новости» в пресс-службе ГУ МВД России по ЦФО. В итоге на счета несуществующих компаний перечислялись огромные суммы. А непосредственно выдача наличных средств проходила уже через депозитарии официально работающих банков. Обналиченные деньги в ячейки закладывали сотрудники банков, входившие в преступную схему. Они получали процент от оборота денежных средств. Естественно, никакие налоги с этих сумм в фискальные органы не поступали. По подсчетам оперативников, ежедневный оборот злоумышленников составлял от 30 до 40 млн рублей. В двух филиалах банка, расположенных на улице Солянка и в Гончарном проезде, а также в дополнительном офисе ООО КБ «МКБ», следователи провели обыски в рамках уголовного дела. Оно было возбуждено в апреле этого года по ст. 172 УК РФ (незаконная банковская деятельность), которая предусматривает до семи лет лишения свободы со штрафом до одного миллиона рублей. В ведомстве подчеркивают, что, несмотря на обыски в зданиях банков, расследование касается отдельных их работников. Останкинский суд Москвы решает вопрос об аресте троих подозреваемых.
