Just as the markets were looking for some year-end respite from recent woes, perhaps the largest single case of financial fraud has begun to unravel, involving Bernard L Madoff and his company Madoff Investment Securities LLC.
Last Thursday, morning Bernie Madoff, was arrested at his Manhattan home by US federal agents who accused him of running a multibillion-dollar fraud scheme. In what's known as a 'ponzi' scheme he had been paying existing investors out of funds provided by new investors, and the consistency of his returns had attracted customers from numerous prestigious financial institutions worldwide.
Although many larger European banks and institutions are announcing their exposure and subsequent losses, we at Helvetia Wealth announce that we are in no way exposed to this issue, through any of the direct or indirect financial products we have in our portfolios.
