New diamond find in Canada: Canada's Peregrine Diamonds said it made a new discovery of diamonds at the Chidliak exploration property in the northern Canadian territory of Nunavut, Reuters reported. The minerals and precious gems explorer said a 220.9 kilogram sample collected yielded 664 diamonds, including 11 diamonds larger than the 0.600 mm sieve size at the CH-7 kimberlite formation. The largest diamond recovered was a 0.64 carat off-white, translucent octahedroid, the report said. Peregrine said two more kimberlite formations, the CH-4 and CH-8, also contained diamonds with 201.6 and 187.9 kilogram samples yielding 15 and 17 diamonds, respectively. Peregrine is the operator of the 2009 Chidliak exploration programme, which is being fully funded by BHP Billiton Ltd.
