Nunca hasta la fecha el BCE había realizado una subasta ilimitada de liquidez a un año, y nunca hasta hoy había inyectado en una sola operación una cantidad similar, 442.240 millones de euros, al tipo fijo del 1%. Al mismo tiempo que se conocían estos datos, el euribor, en mínimos históricos, aceleraba aún más sus caídas. El Banco Central Europeo ha dado un paso más que histórico en sus medidas sin precedentes adoptadas para hacer frente a la crisis. La primera subasta ilimitada de liquidez a un año había generado una expectación insólita, acorde con su novedad. Los mercados financieros ya auguraban una enorme demanda en la subasta sin precedentes de hoy, al estimar que los tipos de interés de la eurozona no seguirán cayendo y que la oportunidad de adquirir préstamos en condiciones tan favorables (al 1% a un año) podría no repetirse. Finalmente, todas las previsiones de demanda se quedaron incluso cortas. El BCE ha adjudicado 442.240,5 millones de euros, con vencimiento el 1 de julio de 2007, y con un tipo fijo del 1%. El anterior récord en una sola inyección del BCE databa de diciembre del año 2007, meses después del estallido de la crisis financiera, con 348.600 millones de euros. Mercados interbancarios Los resultados de la inyección extraordinaria de liquidez prácticamente coincidieron con los cambios diarios del euribor. El indicador de referencia para el cálculo de las hipotecas no sólo encadenó sus segundos mínimos históricos consecutivos.
