In a statement, a spokesman for the attraction said: 'The Science Museum has been evacuated following a suspected chemical incident and will be closed for the remainder of Thursday May 20. 'No visitors have been affected by the incident. Nine members of staff and contractors are being treated for mild irritation to the eyes and throat.
'The Science Museum is working closely with the London Fire Brigade, the Metropolitan Police and the London Ambulance Service to assess the next steps.'
