Britain has called on Iceland to honour its compensation obligations, two days after the Icelandic president vetoed a bill to repay the UK government over the failure of Icesave bank. Paul Myners, the British treasury minister, said on Thursday that his government expects Iceland to compensate the UK and The Netherlands for covering losses incurred by the collapse of the bank. Britain and The Netherlands stepped in to compensate nearly $6bn to more than 320,000 customers who lost money in the collapse of Iceland's internet savings bank. Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, Iceland's president, rejected a bill on Tuesday that would compensate both governments. He said he had decided to put the issue to a public referendum instead, angering British and Dutch officials.

A Polícia Judiciária (PJ) revelou hoje à Lusa que a explosão ocorrida quinta-feira à noite num edifício em Cascais, que provocou um ferido grave, deveu-se a uma fuga de gás, descartando a hipótese de crime. «Tudo aponta para um mero acidente relacionado com uma fuga de gás», adiantou fonte da PJ, depois de ter estado esta manhã no local a proceder às devidas averiguações. A PJ exclui, assim, a possibilidade de ter havido «mão criminosa», depois de o piquete da GALP, que esteve no local, não ter detectado qualquer fuga. O incidente ocorreu cerca das 21:25 de quinta-feira, na cave de um edifício de seis andares em S. Domingos de Rana, no concelho de Cascais, que era utilizada como escritório e armazém. No local estiveram os Bombeiros da Parede, Protecção Civil de Cascais, PSP e um piquete da GALP. O incêndio provocou um ferido grave, que foi transportado para o Hospital de S. José, em Lisboa.

Itaú diz ser improvável CSN pagar prémio elevado pela Cimpor. 08/01/10 13:30. Os peritos do Itaú admitem uma subida da contrapartida, mas não para um valor que implique pagar um prémio elevado pela Cimpor. O Itaú Securities considera que a CSN poderá subir a sua oferta pela Cimpor, dos actuais 5,75 euros, mas vê como limitada a possibilidade de a empresa brasileira vir a pagar um múltiplo muito elevado pela cimenteira nacional. Em nota de ‘research' o Itaú assume como tecto máximo um múltiplo de 10x EV/EBITDA - assumindo os lucros estimados para 2010 - o que avaliaria as acções da Cimpor em 7,37 euros, mais 28% do que a oferta actual. A estes valores, a CSN pagaria um prémio de 2,5 mil milhões de reais (cerca de mil milhões de euros), ou seja, 6% da sua capitalização bolsista. Este cenário é, contudo, considerado "improvável" pelos analistas do Itaú. "Em comparação, a CSN tem tido uma performance aquém dos seus pares - cerca de 9% abaixo - desde que a oferta foi lançada, o que equivale a perdas de capitalização bolsista na ordem dos 3,9 mil milhões de reais", adiantam ainda os analistas do Itáu numa nota de análise. O conselho de administração da Cimpor chumbou ontem a Oferta da CSN, classificando-a de "hostil, irrelevante e perturbadora".
